A trust wide focus on improving reading may have produced some encouraging results.
A dip in year 6 reading results across our trust has prompted a MAT wide review resulting in a number of common new strategies in all three school. Research carried out by Assistant Head Emma King has resulted in all three schools taking on a number of new strategies including those that focus on improving fluency. All our schools have developed these approaches to fit their unique settings but training and monitoring have made good use of our shared resources. We’ll know what difference we’ve made in the next few months but results of mock SATS indicate a trust wide improvement.
Development continues with a small group of teachers from across the trust meeting regularly to plan next steps. One of their key questions is to unpick exactly what a good reader looks like within Coast Academies.
